State wins a four set fight in its home opener
Mississippi State claimed two tight opening sets, absorbed Iowa's third set response and finished the 3 to 1 victory with a 25 to 20 fourth set. Bernardita Aguilar recorded 20 kills and Lindsey Mangelson added 19. State held a 10 to 4 advantage in blocks. The Bulldogs collected 74 digs in the home opening win.
Close sets make every little mistake expensive, and State won the first two before having to answer a setback in the third. The fourth set response is the part fans ought to appreciate. You cannot replay the set you just lost; you have to settle down and win the next point. State did enough of that to send the home crowd away happy.
